My Research Interests

My primary interest in science has been on the ecology of phytoplankton, specifically how their biomass and productivity is distributed across space and time. My research leverages measurements made by autonomous underwater vehicles (e.g., gliders and floats) deployed in the ocean as well as space satellites. My research topics involve developing optical techniques for describing phytoplankton biogeography, phenology, photo-physiology, and biogeochemical cycles.
